Save our Overseas Senior Carers

Assisted Living -
IMMIGRATION MATTERS
Home Care For Seniors -

Home Care For Seniors -
SOS message to Immigration Minister Liam Byrne – If you get rid of all our overseas Senior Carers there will be a staffing crisis in the Care Industry.
Elder Care -

With thousands of Work Permit holders and their families facing the threat of removal from the UK, something must be done to ‘Save our Overseas Senior Carers’.
Senior Home Care -

The Border and Immigration Agency (BIA) are refusing virtually all Senior Carer Work Permit applications or putting them “on hold”, pending new policy guidelines. The tough new line taken by the BIA is not only affecting new overseas applications but also existing workers already in the UK and renewing their permits.
Home Care For Seniors -

New rules, to be announced shortly, are not expected to be good news for the thousands of Filipino Senior Carers already working in the UK whose lives are in the balance. This comes on top of previous measures which have made non-EU workers feel unwelcome in the UK.
Caregiver Support -

Last year the Government changed the rules on permanent residency (ILR) by extending the length of time required to qualify from four to five years. This meant that migrant workers coming up to the end of a four year Work Permit will have to extend their permits and leave to remain at a cost of over £500.
Home Care For Seniors -

But with the BIA introducing new restrictions, making it almost impossible to renew a Senior Carer Work Permit, many thousands of workers and their families will be removed from the UK.
Elder Care -

As recently reported by Immigration Matters “Are Senior Care Work Permits History” the Border and Immigration Agency, has already slashed the number of Work Permits issued this year.
Assisted Living -

Despite this, applications and fees of £190 are still being accepted by the BIA, when it is clear that 99.9% of Senior Work Permits are being declined with no offer of a refund.
Elder Care Providers -

Care Home owners and Managers are also expecting the worst, bracing themselves for the news that their overseas workers will be thrown out like yesterday’s newspapers.
Senior Home Care -

The industry is facing a staffing crisis
Senior Home Care Services -

Industry trade bodies have yet to speak up for their members on this serious issue, despite the fact that many Care Homes will have to close if they cannot meet strict staffing guidelines laid down by the CSCI.
Senior Home Care -

One Care Home owner in the North East told me this week that he is disappointed with lack of response from industry bodies and has resigned from ECCA (English Community Care Association).
Senior Health -

“We have two Work Permit applications on-going at the Home Office which have been with them for weeks and from talking to the caseworker my gut feeling is that they will be refused.
Senior Home Care Services -

“We’ve had an advert in the Job Centre for Carers and Senior Carers for ten years with very few local applicants, and there is no way we could have survived without overseas staff.
Home Care For Seniors -

There have been times when our Manager and Deputy have had to cover a night shift because there was not even an agency carer available.” he said.
Senior Home Care -

Nursing and Care Homes, as well as Learning Disability Centres and Domiciliary providers will suffer a severe staffing crisis if the BIA continues to squeeze out foreign Senior Carers. Some of the most vulnerable people in our society will be put at risk.
Elder Care -

Something must be done to save our overseas Senior Carers
Caregiver Support -

If you are affected you must make your voice heard by the Government. My advice is to get your employers and local Member of Parliament (MP) involved in this campaign.
Elder Care -

If every overseas Senior Carer in the UK goes to see their constituency MP and asks them to write to the Immigration Minister Mr Liam Byrne and the Health Minister Ivan Lewis the Government will get the message.
Home Care For Seniors -

Action Plan:
Elder Care Providers -

Get your employer involved
Home Care For Seniors -

Visit your MP at their regular surgery and ask for their support
Caregiver Support -

Write to your MP with a supporting letter from your employer
Elder Care -

Finally, don’t leave it until your visa has expired before taking action.

You can find details of your local MP by visiting http://www.parliament.uk

As A New Parent Free Baby Product Samples Are Very Useful

Filed under: Find Home Care — Will Jay @ 2:48 am

Elder Care - When you’ve finished reading our informative article about free baby product samples, you can impress your friends and family with the amazing amount of knowledge you have got on this subject and about baby accessories in general. If you are a new parents, there are thousands upon thousands of companies desperate to get you as a loyal consumer. Taking care of babies is extremely expensive, and new parents spend thousands upon thousands of dollars every year on toys, diapers, baby food, cribs, blankets, carriers, strollers, and many other baby products. If you are a new parent, you probably already know this. What you probably don’t know, however, is that there is an upside to all of this financial hardship: there are many different companies out there willing to give out free baby product samples in a bid to get your business. You can find free baby product samples basically anyplace where new parents shop or congregate. In baby stores, supermarkets, Preschools, and community recreation centers with baby classes, You will occasionally come across eager executives willing to give you free diapers, food, clothing, or other useful baby products. These suppliers, however, are unreliable. You only really find them if your community is being targeted by marketers. A better way to get free baby product sample items is to look on Google. There are many different companies which, if contacted, will send you sample products free of charge.

The Lecture Experience: Part I

Filed under: Find Home Care — Will Jay @ 2:42 am

Senior Home Care Services -

During the past year or so, I have done nearly a hundred talks about my book, “LADIES: A Conjecture of Personalities.” It’s about the First Ladies – the OLD First Ladies, Martha through Mamie. Since they talk to each other and cross through centuries, it is, of course, an historical fiction. In doing so many lectures, I thought it might be interesting to discuss are some of the things I have learned….
Senior Home Care Services -

1.Sadly enough, while my audiences LOVE my talks (and they are never the same), not too many actually BUY the book.
Assisted Living -

A lesson learned: People need to be interested in the subject or genre. They read what they like to read – sci-fi, romance novels, murder mysteries, etc. So while they may enjoy spending an hour listening attentively and say lovely things about you and your presentation, it doesn’t mean they will outlay twenty bucks to read the book. Do not take it personally.
Senior Home Care -

2.Be selective in choosing your target audiences. A book about raising two-year-old twins probably will not appeal to the Rotary Club. My book about the “old gals” appeals to a wide range of audiences, but mostly women, and mostly older women at that. I have done well by appealing to Woman’s Clubs, Historical Societies, Libraries, Senior groups, etc.
Assisted Living -

A lesson learned: Be very selective choosing senior groups. The “younger” seniors are wonderful. They are still working, still driving, still traveling, etc., and reading. They love having interesting speakers. The older seniors, or super seniors” who live in senior residences or assisted-care facilities are not your best audience for obvious reasons of frailties. Go if they invite you (and if they will pay). Do not solicit them.
Home Care For Seniors -

Another lesson learned: Be very selective choosing religious groups as an audience. Of course this depends upon the subject matter of your book/lecture. Many church or synagogue groups will be happy to have you as their guest and will enjoy your talk, but few actually purchase books that don’t deal in some way with their religion – at least not in that venue.
Caregiver Support -

3.To charge or not to charge: Fortunately for my financial circumstances, I am not dependent on book sales for a living. So I started out by doing my programs for free, hoping that publicity and book sales would follow. I wound up doing a lot of talks and driving a lot of miles for limited publicity and very few (usually under 10) books sold. Like I said, you have to be interested in the subject.
Home Care For Seniors -

By the time I did a couple of dozen free talks and having my audiences LOVE me and refer me along for more FREE talks, I did a little soul-searching. If I am good enough for FREE, maybe I am good enough for PAY. After all, I reasoned, when people call me, they always ask about my fee, indicating they are prepared to pay an honorarium. So I decided that “I don’t charge but my CAR does.” I’ve kept it nominal: If the group is within 20 miles from my home, I charge $50; if it is more than that, I charge $100.
Assisted Living -

A lesson learned: Few groups object. My car is happy.
Assisted Living -

Occasionally I still do a freebie, or go to a senior care facility (although those facilities usually have a budget for programs). I like doing a good deed, and the “oldies” love hearing a talk on something other than cataracts, blood pressure or managing their incomes.
Assisted Living -

Another lesson learned: Do not be afraid to turn down a group if it is far away and they won’t pay. Unless, of course, you usually sell a heap of books. Then you can go to the North Pole if you like.
Senior Home Care Services -

4.Finally, know your audience:
Assisted Living -

This is important to any speaker, of course, but doubly so for me, since my subject is so varied and can be arranged to suit my listeners. Always ask the Program Chairman (or whoever contacts you) to tell you a little about their members: their general age category, general income category (particularly if you are contacted by a social worker), the general purpose of the group, i.e. charitable, social, academic, etc.) and anything else that may be of importance to the speaker.
Senior Home Care -

For instance, I was invited to speak at a banquet given by the Ladies’ Auxiliary of a large hospital. So I decided to talk about the health problems of some of the “old” First Ladies. At a “Red Hat Society” program, I picked three First Ladies who I thought they would enjoy having as “honorary members.” For other groups I sometimes choose one or two “old gals” that might be pertinent to their organization.
Caregiver Support -

A major lesson learned: Do not forget to promote your book and read to them a little. Sometimes I get so carried away about my subject matter that I neglect to encourage book sales. Make sure you talk about your book, why you wrote it, why they should purchase it, why it makes a wonderful gift, and why they should recommend you and your program to their friends.

Identification Card Printers

Filed under: Find Home Care — Will Jay @ 2:28 am

Elder Care Providers - Many schools, businesses and other organizations use ID cards for security purposes so they can easily identify anyone who is on the premises. Card printers are a device that is used together with software to make and design ID cards. You will find there are many different printers available that offer you a variety of features. This makes it easy to find one that will take care of all your needs regardless of what they are.

Home Care For Seniors -You can choose an identification card printer according to your personal preference or based on your printing needs. This will partly depend on how many ID badges you expect to use and the type of cards you want to print. Once you begin your search for a printer to make your ID cards you will discover there are many options available at a variety of different prices. Many ID printers are multifunctional and can perform a number of different tasks which make them a very useful tool for any business.

Elder Care Providers -Types of Card Printers

Senior Home Care -There are many different types of identification card printers available today in a variety of prices. With all the options available it can sometimes be a little difficult deciding which one would suit your needs the best. However, if you take a little time and consider which features you really need and which ones you don’t this will help to narrow your search.

Elder Care Providers -Questions to ask yourself include whether or not you will be printing the card on one or both sides, do you need a magnetic strip or would you like to have holograms on the ID badges for added security. Single-sided printers work great for simple jobs like student identification cards or employees that work in companies that don’t need a lot of security. However, the double-sided printers are best for companies that need increased security.

Senior Health -You will also have a choice between paper and plastic cards so you will need to decide which one you will be using before you will know which printer to buy. Some types use ribbons and other designs don’t so this is another decision that you will need to consider. Once you begin looking at all the different options available you will be able to decide which style would suit your needs the best.

Home Care For Seniors -Things to Consider

Elder Care -Of course, the price of the printer is always a factor so consider your budget when choosing your card printer. Technology has made it possible to create some pretty amazing ID card printers that can do just about anything you can imagine. Therefore, if you are not familiar with all the options available you should take some time to check them out. You may even find some features that you would love to have but didn’t know were available.

About the author:

Check out ID Superstore for low prices on card printing. They also carry many other quality identification supplies, such as all types of id printer supply and card printing ribbon.

Choosing the Right Nursing Home

Filed under: Find Home Care — Will Jay @ 2:15 am

Elder Care -
Selecting a Home Care Facility entails more than just scanning directories and local advertising media. An accurate assessment of the living conditions of an assisted living facility requires a well contemplated and painstaking approach that goes beyond services and amenities.
Senior Home Care Services -

Your selection method can be likened to your experience when you first shopped for a home. We’re not suggesting that you actually pore over the entire architectural layout of a nursing home, but rather to treat this decision making process with the same zeal and energy.
Elder Care -

Given the number of available nursing homes in each community, the choices can go on and on. Realizing the number of factors to consider, choosing a nursing home can be a daunting task indeed. If you’re totally at a loss as to where or how to begin your search, do consider the following tips.
Elder Care -

Survey the Community
Home Care For Seniors -

It isn’t just all about analyzing the elements within the confines of a nursing home. Learn to observe and study the neighborhood. Knowing that your loved one resides in a calm and tranquil environment will definitely give you peace of mind.
Caregiver Support -

Check the Living Conditions
Elder Care -

Though it would be tough to find a facility that would match the comforts of your own home, take time to scan through the items in the following checklist which at times are surprisingly overlooked:
Elder Care -

• Laundry Service
Senior Home Care -
• Bathroom Sanitation
Senior Home Care Services -
• Kitchen Service
Senior Health -
• Bedroom Conditions
Senior Health -
• Leisure and Entertainment
Senior Health -
• Transportation Service

Meet the Staff
Senior Health -

Make sure to acquaint yourself with the caregivers and other personnel within facility. It would be a good idea to keep the communication lines open.
Elder Care -

Ask Their Opinion
Home Care For Seniors -

More often than not, it’s you who would have to decide as to where your aging loved ones would be spending their twilight years. However, try to involve them by soliciting their opinion during the evaluation process. It would be wise to see things from their perspective as well.

How To Prepare For Our Nations Elderly Population Shift

Filed under: Find Home Care — Will Jay @ 2:08 am

Caregiver Support -

Everyday 10,000 Americans celebrate their 65th Birthday. By the year 2030 over 70 million Americans will be senior citizens. As this wave of seniors marches forward we need to prepare for this transition. By planning ahead we can ensure that we are capable of offering quality care to our thoroughbred Americans.
Caregiver Support -

Don’t expect our government to be prepared for this. Although they are making changes, this wave is so massive and affects so many different areas of our society that we will not be ready. All Americans will all be affected by this situation. It will be up to each and every one of us to assist our nation during this transformation.
Home Care For Seniors -

Businesses and individuals who start planning and make changes now will also benefit during this period. The cost to care for our seniors will be tremendous reaching in the billions. Some changes and different ways we can adapt to the future are below.
Elder Care Providers -

Hospitals will need to hire valet or parking attendants because of the large numbers of seniors needing assistance walking. Seniors and their care givers will not be able to walk across long parking lots. An alternative would be to build high rise parking garages attached to the hospital.
Elder Care -

Nurses will be offered fast track career opportunities and larger responsibilities. To prepare now they should take American History classes as well as business courses. The history classes will enable them to communicate and understand the elders better. The business courses will assist them in offering congregate care to communities or starting their own business.
Senior Home Care -

Contractors and homeowners need to start building or installing elevators in two-story homes. There are medical tax incentives that dramatically reduce the cost to install them in homes. When they design bathrooms they should allow space for dual sinks and plenty of room in the event of the need for wheel chair accessibility. They also need to get in the habit of installing wider doors or even sliding doors that are concealed within walls for this same reason. Using larger address numbers would assist emergency vehicles. Handicap accessible options could turn out to be good selling points in the future. Energy efficient and secure homes should be mandatory versus optional.
Caregiver Support -

Currently there are under 7000 geriatric doctors across our nation. With 70 million baby boomers headed our way it may be a good idea for doctors to start shifting to this area. Veterans of war do not appreciate going to the V.A. Hospital and always being treated by a doctor from another country. Politically correct or not, they have their own mind and beliefs and we will have to adopt to it.
Elder Care Providers -

Website owners offering a selection of categories need to offer the section of elder or senior care to the family category. There will need to be products developed in this area comparable to the needs of our citizens. You may want to increase the size of your fonts so everybody has equal access to the content.
Senior Health -

Businesses and community leaders need to start placing adult and child care facilities in the same building and possibly let these generations mingle together periodically. The young children need the love and wisdom the seniors have to offer. This will also be convenient to the multi-generation families and allow them to proceed with their career.
Senior Home Care Services -

This is just a few of the many changes that we can start right now to assist our great nation. By planning ahead and working together we can handle any situation. There is opportunity around every corner.
