Why Is Small Business Health Insurance Worth It?

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 2:57 am

Elder Care Providers - If you’re looking for a guide to how to get health insurance and what kind of health insurance is best for your small business, then this is the article for you. Your business qualifies for small business health insurance if you have anywhere between two and fifty employees in it. If you are self employed then you’ll want to look into getting self employed health insurance.

Home Care For Seniors -There are many benefits to getting small business health insurance. A small business health insurance plan will help spread the financial risk around to everyone and not just yourself. As this is the case, this generally will bring lower premiums and more extensive coverage. Along with this, the health insurance provides medical care for you and all other employees as well.

Elder Care -With a small business health insurance people often get group insurance. This too has its advantages on several different aspects. All contributions from the employers are 100% tax
deductible, and you’ll save on payroll taxes as well. Small businesses will be eligible for group insurance just as long as you have two or more full time employees working.

Elder Care -When setting up a group insurance plan for your small business, all members will be set up with a coverage plan with rates calculated using the group and individuals. After that it is up to the separate employees themselves if they wish to add riders and additional coverage to satisfy their needs. Keep in mind that not all employees in the small business have to join the group plan. Just as long as there are no fewer than two employees in the business that have the group insurance plan, then you will be fine.

Senior Home Care -The cost of the group insurance plan varies based on several different characteristics. Some of these include age, health status, business and/or residential location and so on. Like everything in this world it’s not going to be cheap, but it will be cheaper than having a bunch of separate health insurance plans.

Senior Home Care Services -Most health plans are going to require employees to pay at least half of the premium cost for covered employees. Some employees will offer to pay 100% of the cost, white now there is a new health plan giving employees the option to pay as little as 25% of the cost. Just know that typically most types of coverage will cost employees a minimum of $1,600-$2,500 per year per
employee. By clicking on the link below you can begin getting quotes for your small business health insurance.

Choose Wisely for Your Health at the Grocery Store

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 2:55 am

Senior Home Care - Just yesterday, I was at the grocery store (supermarket) and had to shake my head at all of the clever deceptive labels with everything claiming all sorts of things that are supposedly “healthy”, but aren’t really. This is food marketing deception at it’s worst.

Senior Home Care Services -One of the things I noticed over and over that really disturbed me was that I saw several examples of healthy foods in their natural state, but I saw counterfeit overly processed versions of these original foods claiming that they were healthier than the natural version…

Assisted Living -However, in reality, all of these counterfeit versions were actually MUCH worse for you than the original… and they still have the balls to claim that their overly processed “junkified” versions are better.

Senior Health -I wonder if these companies are really clueless enough about nutrition that they legitimately think their products are healthier than the natural version? Hmm.

Home Care For Seniors -Example #1: Product claiming to be “Better than peanut butter”

Elder Care -This product is ridiculous! I can’t believe anyone would ever believe that this processed junk is better for them than natural minimally processed peanut butter.

Assisted Living -First of all, if you buy a good natural organic peanut butter, it is usually nothing but two ingredients… peanuts and salt. And they don’t add much salt so it’s not a high sodium product.

Senior Home Care Services -However, this fake peanut butter which claimed it was “better than peanut butter” (trying to seem healthier than natural peanut butter based on its label claims) had a list of processed junk in it you wouldn’t believe. First of all, they strip all of the natural healthy fats out of the peanuts so that it is a “low fat” product. Alright, now you have just taken away one of the healthiest parts of the peanut butter… the appetite satisfying healthy fats that you need to control cravings and manage more stable blood sugar levels in your body.

Home Care For Seniors -To make things worse, the healthy fats were replaced with 2 different types of sugar-based syrups as well as additional dehydrated cane juice (aka SUGAR), in addition to added refined starches (in case you didn’t get enough blood-sugar spiking refined carbs yet).

Home Care For Seniors -This product has taken something as simple and natural as peanut butter, and turned it into what should really be called some sort of processed junk candy. Yet, they claim that it is healthier for you than peanut butter. And somehow they get away with deceiving the masses like this on their label. Do not be their fool!

Senior Home Care Services -Example #2: Product claiming to be “better than eggs”.

Assisted Living -I won’t get as detailed on this one because I recently went into good detail on this entire topic in another newsletter.

Senior Home Care Services -Basically, this product was just egg whites with a bunch of added chemical colorings, flavorings, and other nonsense, including artificially added vitamins.

Senior Home Care Services -Again, this product has essentially ruined a good thing by removing the healthiest part… the YOLKS! And yes, the yolks ARE the healthiest part of the egg. Anybody that tells you different does not understand much about real nutrition. The important thing to look for in quality whole eggs are cage-free and organic.

Assisted Living -Most people don’t realize that almost all of the quality nutrition of an egg is found in the yolks. The majority of the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and trace nutrients are found in the yolks, not the whites. Even the protein in the whites isn’t as high quality in terms of bioavailability without the amino acid profile of the yolk that complements the amino acid profile of the whites.

Caregiver Support -And no, the cholesterol in eggs is not bad for you… it actually raises your good cholesterol more than bad cholesterol improving overall profile. And the fats in whole eggs are balanced and healthy for you as well.

Senior Home Care -Bottom line… whole eggs are healthier than egg whites. The label claims are just another example of food marketing deception.

Senior Health -Example #3: A product claiming to be “better than butter”.

Assisted Living -This was essentially crappy margarine loaded with highly processed and deadly trans fats, yet it had the nerve to claim it was “better than butter”.

Home Care For Seniors -Heck NO!

Home Care For Seniors -Even low quality butter is better for you than any margarine. One problem with butter are the pesticides and hormones frequently found within from improperly raised cows.

Assisted Living -For this reason, it’s always a good choice to go with organic butter, and if you can find grass-fed butter, then I would even say it can be healthy for you. Grass-fed butter is higher in beneficial conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). In fact, adding a little butter to your steamed vegetables helps your body to absorb more of the vitamins and minerals in the veggies.

Elder Care -Also, due to the content of stable saturated fats in butter, this makes butter one of the best oils to cook with. Oils high in polyunsaturated oils such as soy, corn, safflower (and even flax) are the worst to cook with due to the highly unstable nature of their chemistry. I have a fully comprehensive article on which oils are healthiest for cooking and which are not based on their chemistry.

Home Care For Seniors -Another point… the saturated fat in butter is NOT bad for you. We’ve already beaten a dead horse with that topic in previous articles, but again, more detailed articles about that topic are found at my site.

For The Health Of Your Boxer Dog

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 2:41 am

Assisted Living - A Boxer dog can live for up to 10 to 12 years as long as he gets proper care, diet and exercise. Just like in humans, good health is important to a dog’s longevity and quality of life. Whether you bought your puppy from a pet store or adopt one from a shelter, it is your responsibility to provide him with the things he needed to keep him healthy as well as happy. Below are some points on how to ensure your dog of good health he truly deserves.

Caregiver Support — Feed your Boxer dog with a well balanced diet. Your Boxer dog’s food should include meat as the first ingredient. As much as possible, avoid spicy or rich table scraps and limit the feedings to twice a day. You must remember to never allow your dog any strenuous exercise shortly after meals to prevent a deadly disease called bloat.

Elder Care Providers — Boxers are short-haired breed so they rarely get dirty. Bathe your Boxer infrequently or only if you think that he is dirty or if he smells dirty. Brush the coat regularly using a firm bristle brush.

Senior Home Care — Since they are short-haired, they can be very sensitive to extreme elements of weather. They should be protected from cold during bath. During winter, the bath should take place in a well heated area and lukewarm water should be used. The breed is sensitive to warm weather as much as they are sensitive to cold. During warm months, baths should be given in the fresh air. Outdoor fun should be set aside for the moment since hot and humid weather makes him uncomfortable.

Senior Health — Having the characteristics of a strong working dog, a Boxer dog needs regular exercise to keep up with this breed’s boundless energy. Two hours of walking or running or play sessions are enough to make them healthy and happy Boxers you want them to be. Through this, they will be able to maintain good alignment, prevent obesity and prevent boredom-associated behavior such as chewing and digging.

Senior Home Care — Have your Boxer dog immunized with vaccines against parvovirus, distemper, rabies and other vaccines required by law. Consult your veterinarian or local health officer regarding this matter.

Senior Home Care Services — Be aware and understand the health problems your dog more prone to. This health problems include hypothyroidism, hip dysplasia, cancers, bloat and Aortic Stenosis (a heart condition).

SeniorFit Personal Training Opens in New York City

Elder Care Providers -

Promotes healthy aging to boomers & seniors

Home Care For Seniors - New York, NY (PRWEB) September 5, 2007 — Irene Pastore, President, announces the opening of SeniorFit Personal Training to promote healthy aging for New Yorkers 50 and over. The need for age appropriate personal training has never been greater. Meeting the demands of the fastest growing U.S. population for safe and effective exercise, SeniorFit is designed to reduce risk while improving quality of life.

Elder Care Providers -”Older adults are looking for personal training that gets results, while providing fun and variety, without risk of injury. In fact, fear of injury may develop into a long-term excuse to avoid exercise,” comments Ms. Pastore, whose ultimate goal is to help boomers and seniors prolong healthy longevity, and independence.

Caregiver Support - Older adults are looking for personal training that gets results, while providing fun and variety, without risk of injury. In fact, fear of injury may develop into a long-term excuse to avoid exercise Pastore says that the older body is more susceptible to orthopedic injury, and that standard workouts for younger adults are inappropriate for the over 50 population. Training sessions have to be adapted to meet the needs of boomers and seniors, while offering challenge, diversity, and enjoyment. Equipment should offer fun and variety, but must be very safe, and easy to use. Thorough health screening, and physician consent, are important criteria that helps eliminate the potential for exercise related injury.

Senior Health -”A client who feels confident that exercise wont threaten their balance, or other existing health conditions, is more likely to stick with the program, and enjoy it as well,” she remarks.

Home Care For Seniors -In addition to strength training, Pastore uses agility ladders, and obstacle courses to help clients improve balance. “Working with this type of equipment keeps the mind alert, and improves confidence. Agility, strength, and balance training, are key in the prevention of falls on slick winter pavement, icy city streets, and subway steps,” she maintains.

Senior Home Care -Whether retired or still working, older New Yorkers are on-the-go, and want to stay in shape. The upbeat Manhattan firm helps them to achieve their health and fitness goals, by providing a full range of home based personal training programs. To make exercise enjoyable, Pastore offers plenty of options. While strength training is the foundation of the SeniorFit program, Pastore integrates variety by offering different types of equipment, and other types of exercise such as Tai Chi, Yoga, Balance Discs, and other fun equipment. Choices are based on ability, health, and personal preference.

Assisted Living -Irene Pastore is a native New Yorker, who has been active in sports and recreational activities since childhood. Her professional career in fitness began in 1996. Pastore is a Specialist in Fitness for Older Adults, and holds several personal training certificates from the International Sports Sciences Association, and the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Pastore says that a vigorous old age is possible, and that Americans shouldnt use aging as an excuse to deteriorate. Green Senior Housing Community For North Country Health Services in Minnesota to be Developed by Ecumen

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 2:33 am

Senior Home Care -

New senior housing development could become one of countrys few LEED-Certified Communities.

Elder Care Providers - Shoreview, MN (PRWEB) June 17, 2008 — http://www.ecumen.org - Aging services provider Ecumen, one of the countrys largest non-profit senior housing companies, is developing green senior housing for North Country Health services in Bemidji, Minn. It is seeking to be one of the countrys few LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) senior housing developments.

Elder Care Providers -The $20 million senior housing development, to be owned by North Country Health Services and developed by Ecumen, is being built using environmentally friendly or “green” features and methods. For example, underground parking will lessen impervious surface space and reduce water use, lighting features will prevent light and energy waste, and many construction materials will be harvested locally.

Elder Care - This will be a community that promotes healthy, successful aging and that honors and celebrates a persons life to its very end. North Country Health Services and Ecumen plan to submit the project for third-party LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the United States Green Building Council.

Elder Care -”Three words stood out as we began to shape this project - mission, vibrancy and sustainability,” said Jim Hanko, president and CEO of North Country Health Services. “The new housing will complement our mission of assuring a lifetime continuum of quality healthcare services, it will be a vibrant community that allows people to live in Bemidji for a lifetime, and it will help sustain natural resources that we all share.”

Caregiver Support -”This project fully embraces a philosophy that aging is all about living,” said Sandy Bensen, North Country Health Services (NCHS) vice president of senior and community living services. “This will be a community that promotes healthy, successful aging and that honors and celebrates a persons life to its very end.”

Elder Care Providers -Slated for a late-summer groundbreaking, the senior housing development will include independent living apartments, assisted living apartments, and memory care apartments. The link to the NCHS mission is most evident with the “aging in place” concept where older adults can move in not needing any services and as they age, assisted living services are brought to them when they need them and on an ala carte basis. All living spaces will link to Neilson Place, the North Country Health Services skilled nursing care center that opened in 2004. The project is anticipated to open in the fall of 2009.

Senior Home Care Services -When completed, the Anne Street site will have more than 148,000 square feet of livable space in two buildings. Eighty catered living apartment homes, which feature independent living and assisted living, will have underground parking. The one-story memory care building will have 27 studio apartments.

Assisted Living -Other features will include a library and media center, grand fireplace lounge, commercial kitchen and dining room, two guest motel-like suites, a hair salon and barber shop, community room, fitness room, and outdoor patios and walking paths.

Elder Care -”Were extremely proud to be working with North Country Health Services and helping make this shared vision become a reality,” said Steve Ordahl, senior vice president of business development for Ecumen.

Senior Health -About North Country Health Services:
North Country Health Services (www.nchs.com) is a community-owned, not-for-profit health system comprised of North Country Regional Hospital, Neilson Place, Baker Park, Bemidji Medical Equipment, and the North Country Health Services Foundation.

Caregiver Support -About Ecumen:
Ecumen (www.ecumen.org) is based in Shoreview, Minn., and is one of the largest non-profit senior housing, services and development companies in the United States. The name Ecumen comes from the word ecumenical, which in turn is derived from the Greek word for home: “Oikos”. Ecumens mission is to create “home” for older adults wherever they choose to live. Ecumen is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and has 4,000 team members. Ecumen writes about news and ideas that are shaping the future of aging services at its Changing Aging blog: http://www.ecumen.org/changing-aging/.

Health Risks - Why Lose Weight?

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 2:28 am

Senior Home Care Services - Lung problems: Excess fat, especially on the trunk, exerts pressure on the diaphragm and interferes with normal breathing. It is not unusual for people who are overweight to suffer from shortness of breath. Not only do they have problems getting enough oxygen, they also have problems exhaling carbon dioxide. This can make them feel sleepy even when they are getting plenty of sleep.

Assisted Living -Obese people who often feel sleepy and short of breath find it very difficult to be physically active - a vicious circle.

Senior Home Care -Gall bladder disease: The gall bladder is a small, saclike organ that stores gall, which is manufactured by the liver and is used to break down food molecules. It can become clogged with gallstones, which consist mainly of cholesterol. Pain, inflammation, and infection frequently result. Sometimes the infection spreads, causing serious complications.

Elder Care -People who are overweight or have a high-fat diet are at greatest risk of developing gallstones and gall bladder disease.

Elder Care -Joint diseases: Osteoarthritis and gout are two painful and debilitating joint disorders that are often related to overweight. Osteoarthritis is common in women over 60, though men suffer from it as well. It is a “wear-and-tear” condition that results when the cartilage that protects the ends of joints deteriorates. The joints most commonly affected are the hips and knees, which bear most of our weight. It should come as no surprise, therefore, that people who bear a lot of weight tend to suffer more often, earlier in life, and more severely from arthritis.

Assisted Living -If arthritis is more common in women, men are the ones who suffer more often from gout. This painful inflammation of the joints often strikes the big toe. It is associated with overweight and excessive alcohol use. Kidney complications are sometimes seen in people who have both gout and diabetes.

Senior Health -Although these joint diseases can be treated with drugs that relieve pain and inflammation and help avoid further destruction of bone and tissue, lifestyle changes may also help. Weight loss is strongly recommended for overweight joint-disease patients.

Elder Care -The health benefits of weight loss

Senior Home Care -After all this gloom and doom, you’re probably ready for some good news. If being overweight is bad for your health (and it is), then losing weight is the best cure.

Senior Home Care -According to the experts, a weight loss of as little as 5 to 10 percent reduces an obese adult’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, i and arthritis. Overweight people already suffering from these conditions usually improve when they lose weight. Losing weight also reduces the incidence of a whole host of heart and lung disorders.

The Journey to Health

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 2:19 am

Assisted Living - As you way have caught on by now, fitness is a journey. Over the centuries, pilgrims have trekked to distant places to answer some unknown, inner call. They have, toiled over stony paths, climbed mountains to reach their destination. So is fitness the answer - to your inner self. When any illness besets your body, it feels hemmed in as if the borders are narrowing, the boundaries are closing in. It’s a time when growth not only may seem unattainable but also non-existent. It’s a time when communication gets swamped by discomfort, pain, numbness. It is not a natural state of life. Medicines are useful because they turn you around from drifting purposelessly, from becoming too vulnerable. But after medication. doctors point you towards fitness. For it puts order back into the disordered state, it provides the healing touch to the diseased state, it identifies the goal lost in the mists of sickness, And that goal is health.

Caregiver Support -It is not always easy to stick to the fitness lifestyle because it is a whole new experience. There are too many barriers built up, too many habits entrenched. But if you think back, as an infant you questioned nothing. You tried your best to turn over since lying on your back all the time didn’t seem normal. You began to crawl, then walk, then run. You changed your world by plunging into new experiences not because you didn’t have a mind, but because it was a clear freeway with no barriers or habits to stop you.

Assisted Living -To break those present mental barriers is not easy. The effort seems too much, You convince yourself that you are feeling deprived.

Senior Home Care -You rebel because you see this fatless-food existence as a threat. Memory crowds your mind. And in one defiant binge, you stuff yourself with more fatty food than you may have done earlier. The result, of course, is not pleasant, it is not that you enjoyed doing it. After the first bit of chocolate on to eat the entire slab - leaving you feeling a little sick with too much rich sweetness. Sick at your loss of control. And that awful guilt paralyzes you cannot do anything effectively.

Senior Home Care Services -This is not the time to give up. Can one binge stop the entire rejuvenating process of growth? A thousand times ‘No!’ Put it behind you.
