Surgery vs Diet Pills - A Health Related Comparison

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 2:13 am

Senior Home Care - Keeping yourself fit and attractive has always been a personal issue however it doesn’t end there, it is no secret that everyone wants to look good (just like models if possible) due to the fact that we are bombarded with beauty magazines which promote low self-esteem and create unrealistic expectations of how people should look like.

Senior Home Care Services -The truth is that not everyone is built the same way, some people will be tall others will be small, it is all part of our genetics, however in most cases we can’t attribute obesity to genes but to the type of foods we eat. You could be a skinny person but if you keep a sedimentary lifestyle and eat foods which are rich in oils and fats you are very likely to gain weight which will be incredibly difficult to get rid off.

Senior Home Care -People who were not taught how to eat properly often find themselves trying to loose weight, this gets even worse on teenagers (especially on girls) who want to look perfect for their prom night, and even if they were far from their prom dance they would still want to look good, in their minds the best solutions are either starvation, aggressive diet pills or surgery; these are all bad options which can hurt their system; the better option is to use natural diet pills which don’t require a prescription, combined with a healthy diet and exercise.

Elder Care Providers -Comparing diet pills vs surgery is something most people who are overweight do in their minds quite often, the convenience of surgery is that the patient looses weight fast and has to do nothing but lay down on a table to let surgeons extract the body fat; as easy and convenient as it may sound this procedure has several side effects such as bruising, swelling, numbness and discomfort around the treated areas.

Senior Home Care -In addition, liposuction which is practiced in patients which after a while keep the same diet they have had throughout their entire life has no effect in the long run, loosing weight by dieting and exercise does improve metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors which is beneficial and adds to the bottom line which is to stay fit but healthy.

Health, Exercise That Will Help You Quit Smoking

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 2:03 am

Senior Health - When you decide to stop smoking, you will bring on other changes in your life as well. Smoking is a very addictive habit, meaning that it is very hard to quit. There are a lot of changes that take place, although exercise can be a big help to you when you decide to quit.

Senior Home Care Services -Try to set a new routine, such as working out or going to the gym. If that is not possible, you should try waking up earlier and going for a short walk. If you can turn that walk into a run or a jog, it is going to be very stimulating and the best way that you can start your day.

Senior Home Care Services -Keep in mind that exercise does not really mean pumping metal. If you do not have the time to stop by the gym every day, then it is not really that big of a problem, as you can always choose to workout at home.

Caregiver Support -Whether you choose to workout at home or at a gym, you should always remember that regularity is the key. It is not getting started that is the difficult part, it is sticking to a regular exercise program that is difficult and proves to be stumbling block for most people.

Senior Health -Some people have a great start. They will buy track suits, gym wear, running shoes, and a lot of other gear, so their first day at the gym is almost like a celebration. As the days go by, they find it very difficult to meet the demands and their routine will slow down a lot and finally come to a complete exercise burnout.

Elder Care -One mistake that several people make is choosing the evenings to exercise. If evenings fit your lifestyle, then it is fine. For most people however, the evening hours are when they are completely pooped. By the evening most of us are drained, and simply too tired for exercise. Therefore, it is always best to set some time aside for exercise in the morning.

Assisted Living -In the morning, wake up a half an hour or so earlier, put on your shoes, and hit the road. Most roads are less crowded in the morning and less polluted as well, making it a wonderful and relaxing way to start the day.

Home Care For Seniors -You should also steer clear from the coffee and try tea instead. If you are moving around in the house, try playing music. You can also redecorate your room by adding a few pictures around. When you redecorate, you should get rid of everything that reminds you of smoking.

Home Care For Seniors -Plan your day where you will have something fun to do at the end of the day. It does not need to be something that involves money, as you do not want to end up bankrupt. Spending time with family, playing games, or going for a walk with your family are all good activities.

Senior Home Care Services -Watching television does not really fit into the list. The reason is because television is not something that demands a lot of attention. You can easily do something else while you are watching television.

Senior Home Care Services -You should also make a list of things that build up your stress and try to avoid them. If it is not possible, you should try to find out some some ways to bust stress and use them. Whatever you do, you should not use stress as an excuse to start smoking.

Seniors Feel Healthier than Baby Boomers

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 2:00 am

Elder Care Providers -

Compared to others their own age, Seniors feel healthier than Baby Boomers. That was one of the surprising findings from a recent online survey of over 500 Baby Boomers and Seniors conducted by 50Plus Research www.50PlusResearch.com.

Senior Health - San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 28, 2007 — Americans generally assume that as they age they will feel less and less healthy. They will “Feel their age.” In fact, the opposite is true. According to a recent survey of over 500 Baby Boomers and Seniors conducted by 50Plus Research, a market research company specializing in the Baby Boomer and Senior market.

Caregiver Support -
Seniors feel healthier than Baby Boomers.
Compared to their friends, Seniors feel very healthy. In fact, 37% of Seniors feel that “My health is much better than most people my age.” But only 20% of Boomers feel this way. Why?

Caregiver Support - Im doing better than they are. We feel healthier as we age.
As we age, we come to accept our own health problems. We get used to them and they dont seem “too bad.” But we dont minimize the physical decline we see in those around us. We hear the complaints of our friends and loved ones as they age, and we say to ourselves “Im doing better than they are.” And by comparison, we feel healthy.

Senior Home Care Services -Im in great shape — but my husbands a wreck.
Unfortunately, this self perception of good health, doesnt include our spouse. Seniors believe that they are in much better shape than their spouse. While 37% think theyre in great shape. Only 23% think their spouse is in great shape. We see their health problems much more clearly than we see our own.

Senior Health -Self perception is king.
So the moral of the story is that as we grow older we should all have a little more tolerance for the health problems of those around us. As it turns out, we look as bad to them, as they look to us.

For Those Seeking Affordable Health Insurance

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 1:46 am

Elder Care - Something that every family is concerned about today is finding affordable health insurance. Finding ways to keep your family healthy without having to pay too much in health insurance is an issue that a lot of people think about. There’s plenty of ways to find affordable health insurance, if proper research is one of your first step. You would never want to blindly go into a healthcare agreement without first being aware of all your options.

Home Care For Seniors -There are methods of finding affordable health insurance for you and your family. Research should be your first step. You never want to blindly enter into an agreement for health care insurance without being aware of all of your choices.

Senior Home Care -Many employers offer health insurance as part of their employee benefits package. In some cases the employer covers a portion of the insurance premium while the remainder is subtracted from the employee’s wages on a regular basis.

Senior Home Care -For most people they view this as an easy method of receiving affordable health insurance. They don’t miss the money they are paying for premiums because it is automatically deducted from their pay before they get the check. They also welcome the contribution of the employer.

Assisted Living -Because they realize their employees need affordable health insurance, employers don’t mind this service. It also increases productivity by keeping employees happy. Now if your employer does not offer this kind of plan there are other options of finding insurance. One way is to look into what companies in your surrounding area offer health care and how competitive are their offer.
When you are seeking out affordable health insurance you’ll want to consider what your biggest health care needs are. For some people they face a monthly burden of prescription drug coverage and for them finding affordable health insurance that offers savings on medications would be what they need.

Senior Home Care -For other families they are facing extensive dental work including orthodontics for several of their children. This family will be most concerned with finding affordable health insurance that has a provision that includes dental work.

How Traditional Chinese Health Beliefs and Chinese Culture Influence The Meaning of Health and Illness?

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 1:34 am

Caregiver Support - Traditional Chinese health beliefs adopt a holistic view emphasizing the importance of environmental factors in increasing risk of disease. According to Quah (1985), these factors influence the balance of body’s harmony, yin and yang. These are two opposite but complementary forces and, together with qi (vital energy), they control the universe and explain the relationship between people and their surroundings. Imbalance in these two forces, or in the qi, results in illness.

Senior Home Care Services -In order to restore the balance, traditional remedial practices may be needed. For example, excess `hot’ energy can be counterbalanced by cooling herbal teas, and vice versa. These beliefs are deeply ingrained among the Chinese, and have been found to be unchanged following migration to Singapore.

Elder Care Providers -Lee, et. al. (2004), found that patients with specific chronic diseases, namely arthritis, musculoskeletal diseases and stroke, were more likely to use Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This was strongly determined by the ‘chronic disease triad’, perceived satisfaction with care and cultural health beliefs.

Senior Home Care -Hence the use of TCM is not associated with the quality of doctor–patient interaction. Astin (1998) also agreed that it was seen as being more compatible with the patients’ values, spiritual and religious philosophy, or beliefs regarding the nature and meaning of health and illness.

Senior Home Care -In traditional Chinese culture, taking medication is thought to be aversive, hence medications tend to be taken only until symptoms are relieved and then discontinued; if symptoms are not obvious, medications will probably never be taken.

Senior Health -Apart from parental cultural beliefs, minor side effects of certain antibiotics such as stomach upset may contribute to the poor adherence of medication. The use of “leftover”, “shared” antibiotics and over-the-counter purchase of antibiotics by parents are common situations in the community.

Home Care For Seniors -They think that their children suffer from the same illnesses judging by the similar symptoms, so they would give the “leftover” or “shared” antibiotics to their children and only bring them to their doctors if there is no improvement (Chang & Tang, 2006). This may cause their conditions to deteriorate and may necessitate aggressive treatments later which may have unnecessary side effects.

Elder Care -However, there are small groups of Chinese who also blamed ill-health or misfortunes on supernatural forces, or on divine retribution, or on the malevolence of a ‘witch’ or ‘sorcerer’ (Helman, 1994). Such groups will usually seek cures from their religions.

Assisted Living -In Singapore, the Ministry of Health has drawn up the TCM Practitioners’ Ethical Code and Ethical Guidelines to prevent any unscrupulous practitioners from preying on their patients and taking advantage of their beliefs, for example, molesting ignorant patients.

Senior Health -The degree of acculturation has been evidenced in the following case. An old man was brought into our hospital with a week-long history of malaise, nausea and vomiting, and sudden jaundice. He was diagnosed to have an obstructive mass in the liver.

Senior Home Care -A biopsy revealed hepatocellular carcinoma. The serological test suggested chronic active hepatitis B. When the news broke to his son that his father had cancer, he requested not to disclose that to his father.

Senior Home Care -When we discussed end of life issues such as hospice care and “do-not-resuscitate” (DNR) orders, the son tried to divert the discussion to other issues such as when his father could go home.

Senior Health -Cultural Issues that may be involved in this case are:

Senior Home Care -The Chinese tend to protect the elderly from bad news.

Caregiver Support -Believing in karma – the older folk believe that discussing illnesses or death/dying is bad luck. They think that talking about something bad will cause it to come true.

Senior Home Care -There is an increased incidence of liver cancer resulting from Hepatitis B due to delayed treatment in the elderly, as it may take a long time for them to accept the initial diagnosis.

The Boomers and Seniors World Expos

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 1:21 am

Caregiver Support -

You will not find caskets or cremation urns at this Expo. What you will find are luxury cars, watercraft, investments, travel packages, health spas, and services that keep the Baby Boomers and Seniors young in their hearts and minds.

Senior Home Care Services - (PRWEB) April 13, 2005 — Mr. Larry Eulenfeld – Founder of The Boomers and Seniors World Expos L.L.C., explains, I went to a Seniors Expo in Florida and the first exhibitor I saw was a funeral home with a top of the line mahogany casket being offered at a reduced price for the event; your choice of lining; burial plot separate.”

Senior Home Care -After years of putting events and seminars together for clients in the Senior market, the Corporate heads over at The Boomers and Seniors World Network have pulled out all the stops in creating a more youthful and optimistic Expo experience. On June 25th and June 26th, 2005 The Greater Ft. Lauderdale Convention Center will hold the inaugural Boomers and Seniors World Expo.

Elder Care Providers -Dont call a Baby Boomer a Senior! Boomers born between 1946 and 1964 are far removed from the financial, mental and physical characteristics of our grandparents of yesteryear. The oldest Boomers are now looking at turning sixty and are avid about enjoying their golden years with all the luxury toys and fun that is available to them. There is a Boomer who turns fifty every seven seconds in the U.S and almost every major corporation targets that ever-growing affluent market. This Expo gives businesses a venue to offer their services and products to this affluent market.

Elder Care Providers -Mr. Eulenfeld explained,” our Expos celebrate the Older Seniors, Younger Seniors and the Baby Boomers by presenting them with services and products that can add quality and excitement to their life. This is one Expo where the Boomers can take Mom and Pop and have a great time.” Investment planning, elder care counseling, cosmetic surgery and other valuable health information will be a part of each Expo.

Assisted Living -Expos are planned for six cities in Florida with the next Expo in Jacksonville in early August. Approximately 200 vendor booths will be available with sponsors and presenters for each Expo.

Read What Alternative Health Has To Offer

Filed under: Senior Home Health Care — Will Jay @ 1:20 am

Caregiver Support - When you’ve finished reading our informative article about alternative health, you can impress your family with the huge amount of knowledge you have got on this subject and about health care issues in general. Health care has become a major issue for most Americans. Costs are skyrocketing, many of us do not have health care coverage and a visit to the doctor can prove both costly and unfruitful. The typical medical doctor has spent about eleven years in college and residency programs to earn their degree. While well educated, sometimes they don’t have all the answers. Due not to poor education, but perhaps a limited scope, the M.D. can not always help the patient resolve their health issue. In the last thirty years or so, alternative health care has sought to fill in the gaps. Allopathic medicine is the purvue of the medical doctor, dealing with the strict science of disease conditions. Pharmaceutical prescriptions, lab analysis and surgery are the main treatments available. Alternative health care encompasses diagnosis and treatment programs which analyze body systems as a whole. While the medical doctor treats the symptoms of the patient, the alternative practitioner approaches disease as a systemic condition. The condition which brings the patient to the doctor may be only a symptom of an underlying problem of another area or organ. For example, if you are frequently prone to bronchitis, the allopathic practitioner may prescribe antiobiotics to resolve the infectious condition and thus bring it under control. The holistic practitioner may instead view the bronchitis as an underlying weakness of the immune system. The naturopathic, or holistic practitioner, recognizes that the bronchitis must be treated and may dispense a number of herbs which are natural antibiotics, such as garlic or elecampane root, a specific for respiratory problems to eliminate the coughing and excessive accumulation of phlegm. However, the alternative health practitioner won’t stop there. He or she may also prescribe a natural immune system booster, such as echinacea, to get at the root of the problem which is causing the recurrent bouts of bronchitis. This alternative approach can eliminate the problem altogether.
