Senior Health -

In honor of National Alzheimers Disease Month, ALZ-HELP.org has created a simple and free online test to help indicate the possibility of early warning symptoms of Alzheimers disease. This test can be shared with a primary care physician in determining the likelihood that a loved one may have this disease, or may have developed early symptoms.

Senior Home Care Services - Georgetown, TX (PRWEB) September 6, 2006 — November is National Alzheimers Disease Month, so ALZ-HELP.org has developed a free on-line test, taken in the privacy of your own home, which has been specifically created with questions designed to indicate your risk factors and possible early warning signs of Alzheimers disease. This tool was created to help you and your health care provider become more aware of early symptoms that could indicate future problems.

Senior Home Care -Medical research statistics indicate that the older we get, the higher the odds become of getting Alzheimers disease. Alzheimers disease is the most common cause of dementia in older adults and this progressive deteriorating brain disorder results in gradual memory loss, personality changes, unusual behavior, and a decline in thinking abilities. It currently affects over 4-5 million Americans and many millions more worldwide. The current baby boomer generation is quickly approaching the age of greater risk for Alzheimers and as many younger people reach their 50s and 60s, they may develop early onset Alzheimers.

Senior Health -This simple test is completely private and is not recorded by Alz-Help or anyone else. Share the results with your health care specialist. For best results, retake this free test every few months and compare your progressive scores.

Assisted Living -Although a cure for Alzheimers has not yet been developed, active mental exercises, like crossword puzzles, Sudoku and other activities, as well as a healthy diet, have been known to help delay its onset.

Senior Health -For your free online test, visit www.alz-help.org.

Senior Home Care - Recognizing a smoker’s face

Senior Home Care Services -We are all familiar with what some doctors call “smoker’s face”: fine lines around the mouth from puckering lips; lines near the eyes from squinting through smoke; a gray-tinged complexion caused by nicotine-slowed blood circulation; thin skin, slackness, and dryness. But did you know that smokers also have higher rates of skin cancers and slower wound-healing rates than non-smokers, and are less able to utilize skin-friendly, antioxidant vitamins such as vitamin C? Moreover, cigarette smoke contains high concentrations of nitrogen dioxide ozone, a compound that damages the DNA your skin cells need to efficiently create new cells.

Assisted Living -With so much going on in one face, a smoker can appear up to 20 years older than her nonsmoking counterparts. For instance, it is common for smokers in their 40s to resemble nonsmokers in their 60s. It’s no wonder that, after sun exposure, dermatologists list smoking as one of the biggest causes of skin damage.

Assisted Living -Several studies have shown that smokers’ skin is an average of 40 percent thinner than nonsmokers’ skin. Researchers say that this is due to restricted blood supply and the deterioration of collagen and elastin in the skin - both caused by cigarette smoke.

Elder Care Providers -Heavy drinking

Elder Care -If you’re at all health conscious, you know you should go easy on the alcohol - a few two-drink nights each week is plenty. That’s because long-term alcohol abuse has been associated with liver disease and breast cancer. Yet the effects of a single night’s binge can appear on your skin as early as the morning after, in the form of dehydration, or water retention under the eyes.

Senior Home Care Services -In addition, heavy drinking saps B vitamins from the body - especially folic acid and thiamine. Skin needs these B vitamins to maintain health, so a deficiency can cause a pale, sallow complexion, dryness, slackness, and unexplained breakouts. Because alcohol dilates the blood vessels nearest your skin, heavy drinking can stress and weaken small blood vessels to the point that some may break, causing visible and unsightly broken veins on your face.

Elder Care Providers - If you’re looking for a guide to how to get health insurance and what kind of health insurance is best for your small business, then this is the article for you. Your business qualifies for small business health insurance if you have anywhere between two and fifty employees in it. If you are self employed then you’ll want to look into getting self employed health insurance.

Home Care For Seniors -There are many benefits to getting small business health insurance. A small business health insurance plan will help spread the financial risk around to everyone and not just yourself. As this is the case, this generally will bring lower premiums and more extensive coverage. Along with this, the health insurance provides medical care for you and all other employees as well.

Elder Care -With a small business health insurance people often get group insurance. This too has its advantages on several different aspects. All contributions from the employers are 100% tax
deductible, and you’ll save on payroll taxes as well. Small businesses will be eligible for group insurance just as long as you have two or more full time employees working.

Elder Care -When setting up a group insurance plan for your small business, all members will be set up with a coverage plan with rates calculated using the group and individuals. After that it is up to the separate employees themselves if they wish to add riders and additional coverage to satisfy their needs. Keep in mind that not all employees in the small business have to join the group plan. Just as long as there are no fewer than two employees in the business that have the group insurance plan, then you will be fine.

Senior Home Care -The cost of the group insurance plan varies based on several different characteristics. Some of these include age, health status, business and/or residential location and so on. Like everything in this world it’s not going to be cheap, but it will be cheaper than having a bunch of separate health insurance plans.

Senior Home Care Services -Most health plans are going to require employees to pay at least half of the premium cost for covered employees. Some employees will offer to pay 100% of the cost, white now there is a new health plan giving employees the option to pay as little as 25% of the cost. Just know that typically most types of coverage will cost employees a minimum of $1,600-$2,500 per year per
employee. By clicking on the link below you can begin getting quotes for your small business health insurance.

The Alzheimer\’s Resource Center Offers Comprehensive Services Designed to Help Increasing Numbers of Families Deal With the Caregiving, Legal and Social Aspects of Disease

Senior Health - Overland Park, KS (PRWEB) June 16, 2004 — Families affected by Alzheimer\’s can learn how to manage the dreaded disease and its far-reaching effects through a new program from the Alzheimer\’s Resource Center. The Center publishes its Alzheimer\’s Caregiver’s Tip of the Day, available at www.BeatAlzheimers.com.

Caregiver Support -The Resource Center’s founder, attorney William G. Hammond, created the Alzheimer\’s Resource Kit, along with a series of Tele-Seminars, to help families cope with the growing threat of the disease in the United States. The latest research indicates that the number of Americans with Alzheimer\’s disease could more than triple from about 4.6 million now to 16 million by 2050.

Assisted Living -This dramatic spike can be attributed to several factors. First, Baby Boomers will enter their retirement years within the decade, and Alzheimer\’s commonly strikes the aging. In fact, it is the most common form of dementia among older Americans. The latest Alzheimer\’s projections are higher than previous estimates also, because more people are expected to live beyond the age of 85 than were predicted a decade ago. Adding to the problem is the fact that people 85 and older make up the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population.

Senior Home Care -”The numbers are frightening,” said Hammond. “But what’s more scary is the disease itself – what it does to people and to their families, both emotionally and financially. Fortunately, there are steps that people can take to safeguard themselves and to ensure that their loved one suffering from Alzheimer\’s disease receives quality care.”

Elder Care Providers -The first step, Hammond and other experts say, is to tap available resources and become informed about the disease. Next, it’s important to build a support network that may include other families dealing with Alzheimer\’s, relatives and friends.

Caregiver Support -Individuals who are suffering from memory loss and their families should, of course, also address the health-related issues with their doctors. While there is no cure yet for Alzheimer\’s, there are a variety of treatment options.

Elder Care -Knowledge gleaned from Alzheimer\’s experts, doctors and Alzheimer\’s law attorneys empowers individuals and families to face the disease and to maintain peace of mind.
Senior Home Care - Just yesterday, I was at the grocery store (supermarket) and had to shake my head at all of the clever deceptive labels with everything claiming all sorts of things that are supposedly “healthy”, but aren’t really. This is food marketing deception at it’s worst.

Senior Home Care Services -One of the things I noticed over and over that really disturbed me was that I saw several examples of healthy foods in their natural state, but I saw counterfeit overly processed versions of these original foods claiming that they were healthier than the natural version…

Assisted Living -However, in reality, all of these counterfeit versions were actually MUCH worse for you than the original… and they still have the balls to claim that their overly processed “junkified” versions are better.

Senior Health -I wonder if these companies are really clueless enough about nutrition that they legitimately think their products are healthier than the natural version? Hmm.

Home Care For Seniors -Example #1: Product claiming to be “Better than peanut butter”

Elder Care -This product is ridiculous! I can’t believe anyone would ever believe that this processed junk is better for them than natural minimally processed peanut butter.

Assisted Living -First of all, if you buy a good natural organic peanut butter, it is usually nothing but two ingredients… peanuts and salt. And they don’t add much salt so it’s not a high sodium product.

Senior Home Care Services -However, this fake peanut butter which claimed it was “better than peanut butter” (trying to seem healthier than natural peanut butter based on its label claims) had a list of processed junk in it you wouldn’t believe. First of all, they strip all of the natural healthy fats out of the peanuts so that it is a “low fat” product. Alright, now you have just taken away one of the healthiest parts of the peanut butter… the appetite satisfying healthy fats that you need to control cravings and manage more stable blood sugar levels in your body.

Home Care For Seniors -To make things worse, the healthy fats were replaced with 2 different types of sugar-based syrups as well as additional dehydrated cane juice (aka SUGAR), in addition to added refined starches (in case you didn’t get enough blood-sugar spiking refined carbs yet).

Home Care For Seniors -This product has taken something as simple and natural as peanut butter, and turned it into what should really be called some sort of processed junk candy. Yet, they claim that it is healthier for you than peanut butter. And somehow they get away with deceiving the masses like this on their label. Do not be their fool!

Senior Home Care Services -Example #2: Product claiming to be “better than eggs”.

Assisted Living -I won’t get as detailed on this one because I recently went into good detail on this entire topic in another newsletter.

Senior Home Care Services -Basically, this product was just egg whites with a bunch of added chemical colorings, flavorings, and other nonsense, including artificially added vitamins.

Senior Home Care Services -Again, this product has essentially ruined a good thing by removing the healthiest part… the YOLKS! And yes, the yolks ARE the healthiest part of the egg. Anybody that tells you different does not understand much about real nutrition. The important thing to look for in quality whole eggs are cage-free and organic.

Assisted Living -Most people don’t realize that almost all of the quality nutrition of an egg is found in the yolks. The majority of the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and trace nutrients are found in the yolks, not the whites. Even the protein in the whites isn’t as high quality in terms of bioavailability without the amino acid profile of the yolk that complements the amino acid profile of the whites.

Caregiver Support -And no, the cholesterol in eggs is not bad for you… it actually raises your good cholesterol more than bad cholesterol improving overall profile. And the fats in whole eggs are balanced and healthy for you as well.

Senior Home Care -Bottom line… whole eggs are healthier than egg whites. The label claims are just another example of food marketing deception.

Senior Health -Example #3: A product claiming to be “better than butter”.

Assisted Living -This was essentially crappy margarine loaded with highly processed and deadly trans fats, yet it had the nerve to claim it was “better than butter”.

Home Care For Seniors -Heck NO!

Home Care For Seniors -Even low quality butter is better for you than any margarine. One problem with butter are the pesticides and hormones frequently found within from improperly raised cows.

Assisted Living -For this reason, it’s always a good choice to go with organic butter, and if you can find grass-fed butter, then I would even say it can be healthy for you. Grass-fed butter is higher in beneficial conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). In fact, adding a little butter to your steamed vegetables helps your body to absorb more of the vitamins and minerals in the veggies.

Elder Care -Also, due to the content of stable saturated fats in butter, this makes butter one of the best oils to cook with. Oils high in polyunsaturated oils such as soy, corn, safflower (and even flax) are the worst to cook with due to the highly unstable nature of their chemistry. I have a fully comprehensive article on which oils are healthiest for cooking and which are not based on their chemistry.

Home Care For Seniors -Another point… the saturated fat in butter is NOT bad for you. We’ve already beaten a dead horse with that topic in previous articles, but again, more detailed articles about that topic are found at my site.

Home Care For Seniors - Ohio (PRWEB) October 17, 2006 — Whether selling to or providing services for senior citizens in Ohio, business owners now have a powerful method to reach potential clients.

Home Care For Seniors -Barbara Mascio, founder of Senior Approved Services (www.seniorapprovedcertification.com) states, No one in the health or elder care industry requires the survey or the high standards that we are looking for.”

Senior Health -She further states, “We applaud our current Approved Services for being the leaders in their industry. We offer the only logical method available that truly addresses the issue of safety when contracting with an outside service to provide care for an aging loved one.

Senior Home Care -Senior Approved Services proves to be a viable solution for the elderly and the family caregiver.

Senior Home Care -Senior Approved Services (SAS) has served more than 8,000 seniors since 2003 at no cost to the senior and without asking or expecting supportive dollars from Federal or State funding.

Elder Care Providers -Ohio resident and entrepreneur, Mr. David Patel, has generously agreed to help sponsor Senior Approved Services for the state of Ohio. Please see http://www.seniorapproved-ohio.com. Mr. Patel is the founder and CEO of Alpine Home Care Services, Inc. located in Independence Ohio. Alpine is also a Certified Senior Approved Service after having successfully completed the SAS required ethic-based consumer driven survey process.

Caregiver Support -The demand for additional resources to serve both the needs of the aging population and supportive programs for the family caregiver within OH is clear.

Elder Care -Seniors, family caregivers, social workers, discharge planners, and even EAP groups make use of SAS service free of charge. SAS is supported by; forward thinking, caring, elder care businesses that recognize the need to protect the elder population from contracting with less than desirable companies.

Elder Care -The health and elder care businesses awarded the Senior Approved Certification have, without any state or federal mandate, paid a fee for the required survey process. In return, their services are recommended and endorsed to seniors and family caregivers in Ohio as a safe and reliable service to contract with.

Senior Home Care Services -Each Certified Senior Approved Service must adhere to a code of ethics in its daily operations. The ethical business practices of health and elder care-related services, resources, and products is proven through the successful completion of the ethic-based consumer-driven survey process.

Senior Health -Complimenting existing programs, SAS is poised to make a positive impact within Ohio. The goal of Senior Approved Services is to develop a One-Call-Solution. This opens up a tremendous opportunity, not only for health and elder care related service providers, but it also includes opportunities for those businesses that cater or market to the senior citizen.

Assisted Living -
IMMIGRATION MATTERS
Home Care For Seniors -

Home Care For Seniors -
SOS message to Immigration Minister Liam Byrne – If you get rid of all our overseas Senior Carers there will be a staffing crisis in the Care Industry.
Elder Care -

With thousands of Work Permit holders and their families facing the threat of removal from the UK, something must be done to ‘Save our Overseas Senior Carers’.
Senior Home Care -

The Border and Immigration Agency (BIA) are refusing virtually all Senior Carer Work Permit applications or putting them “on hold”, pending new policy guidelines. The tough new line taken by the BIA is not only affecting new overseas applications but also existing workers already in the UK and renewing their permits.
Home Care For Seniors -

New rules, to be announced shortly, are not expected to be good news for the thousands of Filipino Senior Carers already working in the UK whose lives are in the balance. This comes on top of previous measures which have made non-EU workers feel unwelcome in the UK.
Caregiver Support -

Last year the Government changed the rules on permanent residency (ILR) by extending the length of time required to qualify from four to five years. This meant that migrant workers coming up to the end of a four year Work Permit will have to extend their permits and leave to remain at a cost of over £500.
Home Care For Seniors -

But with the BIA introducing new restrictions, making it almost impossible to renew a Senior Carer Work Permit, many thousands of workers and their families will be removed from the UK.
Elder Care -

As recently reported by Immigration Matters “Are Senior Care Work Permits History” the Border and Immigration Agency, has already slashed the number of Work Permits issued this year.
Assisted Living -

Despite this, applications and fees of £190 are still being accepted by the BIA, when it is clear that 99.9% of Senior Work Permits are being declined with no offer of a refund.
Elder Care Providers -

Care Home owners and Managers are also expecting the worst, bracing themselves for the news that their overseas workers will be thrown out like yesterday’s newspapers.
Senior Home Care -

The industry is facing a staffing crisis
Senior Home Care Services -

Industry trade bodies have yet to speak up for their members on this serious issue, despite the fact that many Care Homes will have to close if they cannot meet strict staffing guidelines laid down by the CSCI.
Senior Home Care -

One Care Home owner in the North East told me this week that he is disappointed with lack of response from industry bodies and has resigned from ECCA (English Community Care Association).
Senior Health -

“We have two Work Permit applications on-going at the Home Office which have been with them for weeks and from talking to the caseworker my gut feeling is that they will be refused.
Senior Home Care Services -

“We’ve had an advert in the Job Centre for Carers and Senior Carers for ten years with very few local applicants, and there is no way we could have survived without overseas staff.
Home Care For Seniors -

There have been times when our Manager and Deputy have had to cover a night shift because there was not even an agency carer available.” he said.
Senior Home Care -

Nursing and Care Homes, as well as Learning Disability Centres and Domiciliary providers will suffer a severe staffing crisis if the BIA continues to squeeze out foreign Senior Carers. Some of the most vulnerable people in our society will be put at risk.
Elder Care -

Something must be done to save our overseas Senior Carers
Caregiver Support -

If you are affected you must make your voice heard by the Government. My advice is to get your employers and local Member of Parliament (MP) involved in this campaign.
Elder Care -

If every overseas Senior Carer in the UK goes to see their constituency MP and asks them to write to the Immigration Minister Mr Liam Byrne and the Health Minister Ivan Lewis the Government will get the message.
Home Care For Seniors -

Action Plan:
Elder Care Providers -

Get your employer involved
Home Care For Seniors -

Visit your MP at their regular surgery and ask for their support
Caregiver Support -

Write to your MP with a supporting letter from your employer
Elder Care -

Finally, don’t leave it until your visa has expired before taking action.
Caregiver Support -

You can find details of your local MP by visiting http://www.parliament.uk

Elder Care - When you’ve finished reading our informative article about free baby product samples, you can impress your friends and family with the amazing amount of knowledge you have got on this subject and about baby accessories in general. If you are a new parents, there are thousands upon thousands of companies desperate to get you as a loyal consumer. Taking care of babies is extremely expensive, and new parents spend thousands upon thousands of dollars every year on toys, diapers, baby food, cribs, blankets, carriers, strollers, and many other baby products. If you are a new parent, you probably already know this. What you probably don’t know, however, is that there is an upside to all of this financial hardship: there are many different companies out there willing to give out free baby product samples in a bid to get your business. You can find free baby product samples basically anyplace where new parents shop or congregate. In baby stores, supermarkets, Preschools, and community recreation centers with baby classes, You will occasionally come across eager executives willing to give you free diapers, food, clothing, or other useful baby products. These suppliers, however, are unreliable. You only really find them if your community is being targeted by marketers. A better way to get free baby product sample items is to look on Google. There are many different companies which, if contacted, will send you sample products free of charge.
